|
|
|
1956

Fury production
65,257.
SportFury production 23,857. |
1960
|
Owing to the restyling the car
was subjected to in 1960 the Fury gained more
futuristic exterior. Production total 54,215. |
In 1960, the original 318 and
383 were available, along with a new
261 slant six, producing 145 hp at 4000 rpm. The
383 produced 330 hp. |
|
1961
|
More visibly, the grille
turned into a "frowning face", with
rather unusual styling.
|
New engine 413 V-8 Wedge
developing 375HP. In `61 Chrysler introduced the
first alternator. Plymouth Suburban based on Fury
as Station Wagon. |
|
1962
In 1962, the Fury gained yet
another body style. The limited version TURBO
with optional
Golden Commando 305HP got up speed of 60MPH in
8.5 secs.

SportFury production 5,555. |
|

A new exterior demonstrated a
purity of line what made the car too ordinary.

1964
1964 was basically a
carry-over year. `64 Fury resembled similar
models of Chevrolett and Ford very much but in
spite of that Fury looked very lovely. |
|
1965
1965 brought more new names:
Fury I, Fury II, and Fury III. Fury gained
character and vertically stacked, round
headlamps. All new Furys got a new 119"
wheelbase (121" for the wagons) - one inch
more than before. |
|
|
The 426 "Street
Wedge" was introduced, rated at 385 hp but
finally street-legal. The 1965 Fury had five
engine setups: the 225 slant six, the V-8 318,
383, and the 426 Wedge.

FastBack is now available.
|
The 426 Wedge was replaced
by the 440 Super Commando.
|
|
1968
|
In 1968 Fury was renewed
again. I think the style of `68 was the best for
Fury with vertically stacked headlamps. The car
looks very aggressively and sporty. |
Transmissions were 3 speed
manual, four speed manual, and 3 speed
Torqueflite automatic. The 383 Magnum with 4
speed transmission was available. |
|
|
Available engines were the 225
slant six, 318, 383 Commando (2 barrel), 383
Super Commando (4 barrel and "special
cam" per the dealer brochure), or the
4-barrel Super Commando 440. |
1969
|

1971
In 1971 just another restyling
was made which practically didn't change the
car's view. |
|
|
Sport Fury GT was the rarest
Fury of them all. 375 were built in 1971.

1972
New grill gave Fury an view of
alien from another world. Introduction of a 400
cid V-8 (bored 383), the 360 (enlarged 318) was
brought in, replacing earlier performance
engines. Appeared such upper level models the
Fury Gran Sedan and Fury Gran Coupe. |
|
1973
The restyling of `73 turned
Fury into the very neat and right car - the way
real American full-size should look. |
|
1974
1974 brought completely new body style.
1974 became last year, when the name Fury
belonged to full-sized car.
... |
1975
In 1975 , Chrysler face lifted
the slow selling B-body Satellite line and
renamed in "Fury" in hope of enhancing
it's image. |
|
|
The previous large Fury was
renamed "Gran Fury".
The station wagon models was still available for
1975. |
The 2-door middle-sized car looked rather like an
expensive car than like Plymouth Fury. Never less
the car looks quite not bad. |
1976
GranFury `76 differed not much
from the last year model. The GranFury's demand
slumped, and only the police continues to use
this car. |
|
1977
1977 was the last year for the
full-size Gran Fury line until the
four-door sedan of 1980.
This was the last year the big 440 V8 engine was
available. |
|
|
The Fury's form, especially
side view, was very elegant. But the front part
of the car looks a little simple. Unfortunately
this car appeared not at the best time it could. |
1978
`78 Fury was almost the same.
The model weren't put into a series next year. |
|
1980
|
GranFury was relaunched in
1980 on the year old
"R" body platform of the full-sized
Chrysler. Under the skin, it was just the old
Fury/Satellite B-body,
and employed little new engineering.
It was larger than either the new downsized Chevy
Caprice or Ford LTD. |
1981
|
Only 4dr sedan offered. But
sales were very bad, and the next year the car
was rejected. |
1982
|
In 82, the M-body Gran
Fury was born to a changing market. It
itself was a restyled derivative of the F-body
Volare-Aspen. |
1983
1984
1985
|
In eightieth GranFury was even
more smaller than earlier. GranFury was widely
used by police. These cars wasn't popular among
common people. |
